Ingredient Spotlight - Niacinamide

Vitamin B3, Niacinamide or Nicotinamide. This is a power house ingredient, that is not only versatile but gentle and should really be incorporated in some way to every skin care regimen.

The list of its actions seems endless, but Niacinamide is

  • anti-inflammatory

  • anti-bacterial

  • DNA repair - helps with sun damage

  • anti-oxidant

  • barrier protection

  • reduces melanogenesis - combats pigmentation

Vitamin B3 can be used in varying concentrations (2 - 15%), either by itself of in combination with other ingredients. The formulation will depend on whether you are using it for soothing rosacea/acne, helping with sun damage, minimising pigmentation or just maintaining a healthy skin barrier.

For a simple way to incorporate Vitamin B3 in to your regular skin care routine, try the following

  • suncreams that also have niacinamide;

  • moisturisers with niacinamide
